Chanar kopta | Home made cottage cheese curry

Chanar kopta | Home made cottage cheese curry is a side dish popular in bengali households. It is served with roti, parantha or rice. In this recipe, I have used paneer or cottage cheese made at home.

Ingredients to cook Chanar kopta | Home made cottage cheese curry  for 3 people:

  1. Cottage cheese or paneer – 12 pieces
  2. Refined Oil / Butter
  3. Salt
  4. Sugar – 1/2 tsp
  5. Curd – 1/2 cup
  6. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  7. Black pepper whole – 4
  8. Bay leaf -1
  9. Dry chilly – 2
  10. Cardamom – 2
  11. Clove – 4
  12. Cinnamon – 1 stick
  13. Onion – 2 sliced
  14. Tomato – 1 sliced
  15. Ginger – 1 inch
  16. Garlic – 5 cloves
  17. Turmeric powder – 3/4 tsp
  18. 1 tsp each of Cumin and coriander powder, mix with a little amount of water to make a paste

 

 

 

 

 

Chanar kopta | Home made cottage cheese curry:

  1. Fry the paneer pieces and keep separate
  2. Heat oil/butter. Add spices and let them crackle
  3. Add onion slices and sugar. Stir fry till brown in color
  4. Make a paste of the fried onion masala in grinder
  5. Add tomato in oil, fry with a pinch of salt added. Cover cook till tomatoes are mashed
  6. Make a paste of the above in grinder
  7. Take a wok, heat oil, put ginger, garlic paste and saute
  8. Add onion, tomato paste and stir
  9. Add salt, turmeric, coriander, cumin powder/paste and stir till oil separates
  10. Add beaten curd and stir
  11. Add paneer cubes. Stir and coat them well with the gravy made
  12. Add 4 cups of water and bring to boil. Cover cook till gravy is of desired consistency

You can add dollop of butter/ghee/fenugreek leaves/coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis.
