Ingredients for Chingri machher malaikari recipe | Prawn in coconut gravy recipe cooked for 3 – 4 people:

  1. 12 – 13 big prawns ( 300 – 400 gms )
  2. 1 inch ginger – grated or paste
  3. 1/2 of medium coconut – scrapped and then a paste is made by adding a little water
  4. 4 – 5 green chillies
  5. 1 tsp red chilly powder
  6. 1 tsp cumin powder or jeera powder
  7. 1 tsp coriander powder or dhaniya powder
  8. Salt
  9. Mustard oil or refined oil
  10. Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
  11. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  12. Chopped fresh coriander leaves or dhaniya patta

Chingri machher malaikari recipe | Prawn in coconut gravy recipe – The method:

  1. Marinate prawns with salt and turmeric powder for 10 minutes
  2. Shallow fry the prawns for 2 – 3 minutes and keep them aside
  3. Heat mustard oil in a wok
  4. Add ginger paste and stir till rawness disappears
  5. Add the coconut paste and stir for sometime
  6. Add cumin, coriander powder and stir till oil just starts to separate
  7. Add marinated prawns and coat masala well around them
  8. Add 1 – 2 cups of water and cover cook till prawns are almost cooked
  9. Sprinkle garam Masala powder and simmer till the gravy is of desired consistency
  10. Spread fresh chopped coriander leaves and simmer for 1 more minute. Switch off the flame and serve hot with rice!
