Time to make Kachkolar kofta | Plantain dumplings in gravy: 45 minutes

 

 

 

 

Serves – 6 people

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ingredients to make roughly 14 no.s of Kachkolar kofta | Plantain dumplings in gravy:

  • Raw banana or plantain or Kachkola – 2
  • Potatoes – 2 medium sized
  • Salt
  • Refined  oil
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • 2 tsp of coriander, cumin powder, garam masala powder each
  • 1 tsp of kashmiri Mirch
  • Besan – 2 tbsp or as required (chickpea flour / Gram flour)
  • Grated ginger – 1 inch
  • Grated garlic – 2 – 3 cloves
  • 3 green chillies – grated
  • 2 onions, 2 tomatoes
  • 2 red dry chilly

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kachkolar kofta | Plantain dumplings in gravy recipe:

  • Cut plantain and potatoes into halves and pressure cook for 7 – 8 whistles
  • Now, pour Besan or gram flour, salt, green chillies, half of grated ginger, full garlic, 1 tsp of coriander, cumin powder, a little turmeric powder over the boiled potatoes and Plantain. Mash them completely together. The mixture should be smooth and free from lumps
  • Now with hands, make few balls out of the mashed mixture
  • In refined oil deep fry the balls or koftas in batches till they turn color to golden brown. Keep them separate
  • Now over the remaining oil, pour a paste of onion, tomato, ginger, red dry chillies and cook till oil separates from the sides of the wok
  • Add 1 tsp of Cumin, coriander, kashmiri mirch powder each, salt to taste, a little turmeric powder and stir
  • Add water and let it come to boil
  • Add the koftas or balls into the boiling gravy and wait for sometime till the right consistency is achieved
  • Sprinkle some garam masala powder and switch off the gas
